How do i sign up for a poetry reading?

Subscribe to our newsletter and follow us on social media to stay current with our event schedule. We’ll give you a heads up when it’s time to sign up for the next reading — be sure to respond to our invitation and let us know you want to be in the lineup. Keep in mind that spots fill up quickly and you may be waitlisted for the event.

I don’t understand the confirmation emails. can you help?

Please respond to our confirmation emails right away — this confirms that you’re going to be there and would like to remain on the setlist. Not responding will result in you being removed from the setlist. If you no longer plan on performing, please tell us so we can pass the spot along to the next person in line. Our events our thoroughly planned and your cooperation helps us do our job best.

are there any rules to performing?

All performers are expected to arrive at the call time, which is usually half an hour prior the start time of the event. Make sure you check in with our staff right away. Waitlisted performers will be ready to take any spot that is left unclaimed.

Please don’t read from your phone — we encourage you to memorize your work or print it out on paper. Each performer may have five minutes of stage time.

Should you need to cancel, let us know at the time of the confirmation email and not minutes or hours before the event.

Most of all, please be respectful to other participants and stay for the entire show to support all performers in the lineup; leaving after you’ve performed is never cool.

do you host an open mic?

No, our shows are primarily planned out in advance with a confirmed setlist. However, we do host an open mic event at Sideshow Books in collaboration with The Backyard, hosted by Jenna Dorn.

can i choose a time to perform?

Yes, as long you notify our team about time constraints at least 24 hours before the show. It’s best to communicate any time issues during the email confirmation process. Please don’t request a time change during the show because it disrupts the flow of the lineup.

how can i get my work published?

Look out for our next poet of the month contest held on Instagram for a free shot at being published on our website. The winner’s work will be featured on the homepage for the entire month. After that, we’ll keep it on the poetry page so we can spotlight the next winner.

Next, feel free to submit your poems or manuscripts to our email address with a cover letter explaining your interests in choosing pspoets to publish your work! If we feel that it’s a good fit, we will contact you to discuss the process.

Lastly, we host several writing contest every year to give writers an opportunity at having their voices heard. The best way to keep track of everything we do is to subscribe to our site for any updates.
