Other RECOMMENDATIONS to consider:
We know there’s a pretty good chance you have an Instagram account, which is how we most often reach out to our vast community of writers. However, we know social media can really bummer sometimes. Trust us-we’ve been there.
If you absolutely detest and refuse to use social media, let us know, make a good case and write an even better poem. We totally get it and we’ll work with you. In fact, it could even give you some brownie points.
In addition to a little truth-in-jest, here are a few good rules of thumb when submitting your work to PSPOETS or just about any other publication.
Stay away from elaborate fonts that are hard to read. Keep it simple. Standard 10 to 12-point font will suffice. We’ll be formatting according to the platforms we use and our own style guide anyways. Save your creativity for the actual words.
We don’t like to give stringent guidelines in terms of how many poems or words you can submit, but please be reasonable. You may submit more than one piece so long as they’re not written in Homeric epic long-form.
If you do have a longer piece, submit only that particular poem if it’s what your heart desires. Overall, a 1-2 poem submission is ideal for this type of contest.
Read your poem aloud before and after submitting- Before to catch any little grammar mistakes or words that don’t seem to roll off right and Afterwards to feel even more confident and comfortable in what you’ve just submitted.
Be confident, even if this is your first poetry submission EVER. You’ve got to start somewhere, right? Reading the guidelines can make actually submitting the piece of work quite daunting, and can be a downright scary task. But, listen- The last thing you should do is let a fear of rejection keep you from sharing creative endeavors with the world. Just click send and let it go…There’s always another shot down the road.
whether it’s your first time submitting poetry, it’s been a while, or you’d just like some feedback, hit us up!
Please feel free to reach out with any questions you may have before submitting or afterwards for feedback and critique. We’re always happy to help our collective of writers grow to their fullest potential. Now- Get out there and WRITE, you poetry-loving fiends!
