Find Your Inner-Child at PLAYTIME
When I was a kid, I loved to rollerblade.
And I don't mean just throwing on a pair of skates and bombing a hill. I mean jumping off of ramps, grinding down handrails and doing 720s inside a half-pipe.
Maybe it was my wild youth or my thrill for excitement, but either way, I was a kid and it shaped who I am today as an adult.
However, I realize that I don't skate anymore like I used to. Occasionally, I'll see another kid on rollerblades and think how fun that must be, but I don't break mine out of storage and give it a try.
Of course, I'm older now, too. My knees don't feel like taking the pounding, nor would my girlfriend be happy about me jumping off something. And the more think about it, it's not so much that I don't skate anymore, but that I miss the fun I used to have as a child. I miss the freedom of my expression and creativity within something that was totally mine and inspired by my own love and thirst for life.
Let Go and Let Your Fun, Expressive Side Show!
This coming Sunday, Feb 9th, PSPOETS (a business I run) is taking part in PLAYTIME, hosted by Elective Studios.
The day is meant to honor the child in all of us by giving everyone a place to be creative and connect with their inner spirit. Between 11 AM and 8 PM, their entire space will be dedicated to all things artistic and fun. From live musicians to poetry readings, to interactive painting and art projects, everyone is welcome to experience the fun and learn what playtime is all about.
Now, I realize there won't be skate ramps and rails for me to feel nostalgic about, but that's not really the point. Instead, the idea is to simply "let go" of all that adult baggage that stifles your fun and expressive side.
It's like when you would meet another kid on the playground; there was no anxious moment of learning a name or trying to show off your skills. You just started playing, and naturally, friendship and understanding unfolded that didn't ask you for anything else but your kindness and attention.
A One-Day Pop-Up Event You Don't Wanna Miss
If you find yourself in Los Angeles this Sunday morning, I urge you to check out PLAYTIME hosted by Elective Studios.
Not only will there be fun, interactive things for guests to do, but you can also explore a ton of other performances by some incredible talent:
Morgan Jay from NBC's Bring the Funny
Laura Marano from Saving Zoe on Netflix
Alex Kinsey, an X Factor winning artist
Plus, there will be some other featured activities that include a live, collaborative mural, personalized haikus from the Haiku Guys & Gals, an open mic session hosted by PSPOETS, a paint splatter room, and tasty food and drinks.
Anyone who uses the coupon code "PSPOETS" when buying their tickets will receive a 10% discount, too!
More than anything, I hope you take the time to remember who you are on the inside. Life has a funny way of making us lose sight of what's meaningful, and most of all, what's fun; don't get too far off track and let PLAYTIME help you find your center.
Who knows, you might find me blading off the roof.
